Hello all and thanks for your interest in my work! I’ve had this new site design up and running for a while but just now I’m finally launching the blog section. In this blog I intend to keep people updated about additions to the site, news about my freelance projects, sketches, personal projects, thoughts on art / tips, and new prints, books or games I offer for sale. Be sure to follow if you’d like to see what I’m up to. You can use the RSS link here: http://spiralmagus.com/feed/ or subscribe with your email at the bottom of the site page.
I’ll also post blog updates to my social media accounts if you’d prefer to follow that way.
As for recent news, I’m happy to say I’ve begun working on some illustrations for David Baity’s DCC RPG project entitled Dark Trails. David has previously published The Carnival of the Damned, which was very well-received in the DCC community. So it’s great to be working with him and Dark Trails has an awesome Lovecraftian Horror / Weird West theme I can really get into. These will be pen & ink pure black and white drawings – which is a style I really love and it’s great to get back to it. Hopefully I can post some samples here soon!
In other news, I’ve added a Pixel Art section to the site. I’ve been working on pixel art for my personal CRPG project and also as a potential medium for freelance work. I’ve been a computer gamer since the mid-80s (starting on a Tandy 1000 SX) – so I’ve always had an affinity for pixel art and it’s really fun to work in that medium. I’ll post new experiments, sketches, and assets I make for my game to the Pixel Art gallery over time. Also if you’re interested in my computer game projects, keep an eye on this blog as I’ll announce a developer log at some point in the future.
And finally, I’m going to attempt the #inktober challege – which is a 31-day drawing challenge to make one ink drawing per day in October. I’m combining this with the Dungeon Degenerates Monster Drawing Club, which I missed doing in September. Luckily they’re extending the event into October with a new list of monsters to draw each day. These guys are working on a fantasy adventure board game with an awesome underground comix / punk / metal / vintage Warhammer visual style. I love that style and it will be fun doing some ink drawings in that spirit!
I’ll post my inktober / Dungeon Degenerate drawings to my instagram, G+, etc., and maybe make collected posts of them on the blog here periodically.
